Trade Guidelines
- Posting a Trade
- Please list the following when posting a trade:
Teams involved in the trade in the subject: Example - NYY/BOS Trade Players involved in the trade, including current commish ratings, contract status, and positions. EXAMPLE: The Boston Red Sox send RF Babe Ruth (82/99, 1mil per year through 1920) to the New York Yankees in exchange for 5mil.
Failure to post the required information in a clear and concise manner will likely delay the approval of your trade. Owners are strongly encouraged to post a sentence or two explaining the logic of the trade from your team's standpoint. Moderators will take into consideration this reasoning when approving or reviewing trades. - Top
- Trading of Draft Picks
- You may only trade draft picks for the upcoming draft. This means that in April/May before the draft you may trade the current year's picks, and after the June draft you may only trade the following year's picks. Draft picks in the 5th and 6 rounds may not be traded. You are allowed to trade picks you have acquired in previous trades or from free agency compensation.
- You can accumulate no more than 3 first round picks via trade, and no more than a total of 5 first, second, or SW1 round picks via trade.
- Make sure you post any traded picks in the "Picks traded for (year)" thread stickied in this forum.
- Draft picks cannot be traded after the trade deadline (for example, in a waiver trade).

- Trading of Cash
- You are allowed to trade any amount of cash in a trade, and you may trade only cash for a player (in effect buying that player). You may also make annual payments for a player as long as the payments do not exceed a player's salary or the length of his contract.
Make sure you post any annual payment trades in the Annual Payments thread. - Top
- Waiver Trades
- Outahere uses a simplified waiver system. In order to make a trade past the trade deadline (July 31st), a player must be posted in the Waivers forum for 24 hours before he can be traded. Waiver trades must be completed by the end of the regular season and cannot include draft picks.
- All players, both major and minor leaguers, must be placed on waivers to be traded past the deadline.
- If only one claim is entered, the player's contract is assigned to that claiming club.
- If more than one club in the same league makes claims, the club currently lower in the standings gets the player.
- If clubs in both leagues claim the player, preference shall always go to the club in the same league as the club requesting waivers.
- During the the month of April, the previous season's final standings are used to determine claim order.
- Waiver trades are not allowed during the postseason.

- Trade Moderation
- Trade moderation is an integral part of Outahere, both to help keep the league balanced and to ensure owners are not colluding or being taken advantage of. Two moderator approvals are required before a trade can be processed. If a moderator feels a trade is unbalanced, he will post that the trade is Under Review while the moderators discuss the trade. Teams may be contacted and asked rework the trade if the majority of moderators feel it cannot be approved as is. In the case of irreconcilable differences between the moderators, there will be a vote and over 1/2 approval will be required for the trade to be approved.
Factors that the trade moderators may consider include, but are not limited to:
- Player ratings
- Player salaries, a team's payroll, and other budget issues
- Age of players
- A team's standing (in a playoff race, rebuilding, etc)
- Current trade market (recent trades of similar value)
- Future predictions of a player's value
There are no "sign and trade" deals in Outahere. You are free to trade a player in the off season immediately after re-signing him, but the trade must still be at fair market value and pass trade moderation as any other trade would.
Moderator decisions are final, and we ask that you show them respect at all times. - Top
- Trades Involving Rookie GMs
- Rookie GMs are defined as owners without a full season of experience in Outahere. Owners rejoining the league after an extended absence may or may not be asked to repeat their rookie period--this is at the discretion of the commissioners. Outahere is a tough, competitive league, and the rookie period is to ensure owners take the time to learn how we do things and do not harm their franchises only to quit shortly after joining the league. The following rules are essential to maintaining balance and ensuring that new owners learn the ropes before making deals:
- Rookie GMs must wait for two sims after joining the league before making trades. This restriction is waived if the GM joins with less than two sims before before the trade deadline or if joining during the off season.
- Trades involving a Rookie GM require three moderator approvals, and their trades are more closely scrutinized by the trade moderators. A franchise's general direction is most definitely a factor when reviewing a rookie trades--for example, a 100 loss team trying to trade prospects for aging veterans will likely not be approved unless there's very sound reasoning behind the deal.
- For trades under review involving Rookie GMs, a vote requires approval of 2/3rds of the moderators.
